Valentines Ideas For Singles!

Looking in the right places for love: a Valentine’s Day guide February 14 can be a nightmare for most singles, what with all the promos on TV and the internet and the pressure to find somebody you can share it with can be intense. However, if you really are single and ready to mingle, there are loads of places you can meet people who could potentially be your date, and who knows where things could go from there? The key is to have an open mind and be yourself, because you never know when or where you could come across the love of your life. You don’t have to go out of your way to find someone though. Here’s a handy list of the top ten places you’re most likely to find somebody who catches your eye:
  • - Workplace/University: You’re there most of the time, you’re busy doing what you do best (or worst, as the case may be) and you’re being your usual, everyday self. While workplace romances can become messy, your office is also the one place where you could find someone who likes you for more than just the way you look. Keep an eye out for interesting and interested people!
  • - Cafe: Sitting in a cafe with a book or a laptop is one of the easiest ways for someone to start a conversation about what you’re reading or working on. A congenial environment, coffee and lots of time also allow you to make conversation with someone without loud music blasting in both your ears or annoying friends being around. Try it out some time.
  • - Pub/Club: The one drawback of meeting someone in a pub or a club is that the environment you’re in doesn’t allow for lots of flirtatious conversation. Alcohol can also make you do stupid things which you may not want a potential date to see the first time you meet them! However, if you’re the kind who’s at home in a pub or a club and show to your best advantage in dim lighting, loud music and need alcohol to lower your inhibitions, this can be a dating goldmine. Just remember to behave!
  • - Library: A more likely place for finding nice guys/girls who have a smidgen of personality and won’t bore you the minute you’re sober.  Keep it quiet though, or you might find yourself an angry librarian instead of the interesting person you’re after.
  • -  Waiting room: Sitting around, killing time at the doctor’s office or bank can be a potential way to meet new people.
  • - Gym: If you’re looking for someone outdoorsy or athletic, there’s a good chance you’ll find them here. Making yourself healthier and fitter in the process is just a great plus to this activity.
  • - Bus/Train: You’re bored on a bus anyway, and most other people are too. There’s no better excuse for going up to that person you’ve been eyeing and making a little friendly conversation with them. But you should remember that you’re sharing the bus/train with a whole load of other people who will definitely know if you’re making a fool of yourself or being a nuisance. Be suave and subtle.
  • - Speed-dating: Our modern answer to a lack of time and opportunity, speed-dating can be a fun way to spend an evening meeting potentially fun people. Don’t be sceptical right from the start though, because people can definitely see it and they won’t be pleased.
  • - Parties: Small, intimate gatherings or big, loud and obnoxious, parties thrown by friends are a good way to meet new people. And if you don’t like what you get, you can always find someone else because there are always loads of singles at parties who’re looking for the same things as you.
  • - The Internet abounds in chatrooms and dating websites which promise to find you your soulmate. Beware though of creepy stalkers and underage (or overage) people masquerading as someone they’re not. Used wisely and well, the internet can be dating resource but if you’re careless, you might end up putting yourself in serious danger. Look for legitimate websites and chatrooms run by reputed names and definitely don’t reveal personal information about yourself!

Valentine’s Day On Your Own - Be Fabulous and Single

Fabulous and Single on Valentine’s Day

With the amount of hype that surrounds V-day, it’s no wonder that single people everywhere are sickened by the sight of hearts, teddy bears, chocolates and hand-holding couples.  Sometimes, being fabulous and single is just the way you like it, and hey, you don’t have to apologise for that! Here are some ways to spend some quality time this V-day with yourself, family or your girlfriends:
  • - Pamper yourself: You’ve been working hard, so the perfect way to relax would be to book yourself into a luxury spa for a day and allow other people to take care of you for a while.
  • - Sun, sand and sea: There’s nothing as relaxing as lying on a beach somewhere with a good book. If you live somewhere that’s too cold, why not make a quick weekend trip to a sunny seaside resort?
  • - Retail therapy: When in doubt, the answer lies in shopping. There’s nothing like picking up a few bargains, or spending some serious money on that dress you’ve been coveting to make you feel like you own the world!
  • - Get a makeover: Colour your hair, get it cut differently, get your nails done – the list of things you can do at your local salon is endless and you know the results are rewarding.
  • - Have a cocktail party: There’s nothing like getting together with your girlfriends and concocting your own fancy drinks. Break out the tequila!
  • - Movie sleepover: If you fancy a quieter time, grab some old romantic movies, popcorn and chocolate and call your girls over.
  • - Paintball: Valentine’s Day can be a tough time for the newly single, so something strenuous and energetic is a good way to get all that frustration and anger out. Paintball is a fun way to do this, and of course, you can always drown your sorrows in alcohol after.
  • - Blast from the past: Women love fantasising about men from the past, so one good way to spend V-day by yourself is treating yourself to a period drama marathon, filled with yummy men who are too good for this century.
  • -  Potluck dinner: Call some family and friends over and make everyone bring something they’ve cooked. If you’ve got experimental friends, this can turn out fun!
  • - Get rid of all of the ex-boyfriend junk in your closet. There’s nothing like the liberating feeling of dumping/burning/burying all that detritus from the past. You’ll feel like a new person once you’re done! And this way, you’ll have room for all those new clothes from your shopping spree.
Here’s to hoping you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day.

10 Tips or Valentine Ideas To Ask Someone Out for This Special Day

10 tips or Valentine ideas to ask someone out for this special day

Asking someone out on a date is an intimidating thing at most times, but with the added pressure of Valentine’s Day around the corner, single people across the globe are wondering the same thing: how do you manage not to be alone on this, of all days in the year? Well, with these handy hints, you’ll be well on your way to finding yourself with that girl or boy you’ve been crushing on for a while at a romantic little cafe, at the movies, or enjoying a picnic outdoors.
  • Don’t spring it on them out of the blue. Make sure you’ve talked to them a few times just so you can get a feel for whether they like you too.
  • Leaving it too late can also be a common mistake. The closer to V-day you leave it, the more desperate you look. And hey, the earlier you do it, the more time you have to plan a really good date!
  • An easy and efficient way to find out if somebody might be interested in you too is to use a common friend as an intermediary. This doesn’t mean you ask the friend to ask them out though!
  • Once you’ve got your basics done and you definitely know the other person is interested, it’s time to act.
  • First of all, be confident. Nobody likes being asked out by a nervous, sweaty-palmed person who’s staring at their feet. If you’re the kind who is socially awkward and seriously doubt your ability to be coherent, then you always have the option of texting, IMing, emailing or writing a letter but while you might minimise your embarrassment, you’ll also put on a poor show for the person you’re trying to impress. It’s best done in person.
  • Do something that you’ll be comfortable with. Dinner and a movie is a safe first date option, but you could also get creative and do something that would be more personally appealing to your shared tastes.
  • Do not under any circumstances get so drunk that you do something stupid. On a first date, this is inexcusable and simply makes you seem like a pathetic loser. Not an impression you want to leave on someone!
  • Just be yourself.  Don’t pretend to like the same things they do, or pretend to be somebody you’re not. People are usually canny enough to see through such pretences and they only make you seem rather stupid and spineless.
  • Definitely do not be racist or sexist. This is one of the most common mistakes made by people, and yet, it’s so simple to stick to neutral topics of conversation.
  • Don’t push too hard for something physical. A short, sweet goodnight kiss is a good end to your first date with someone!
Valentine’s Day needn’t be something you view as terrifying or intimidating. Asking someone out is as simple or as complicated as you make it. And remember, what matters is that you both have fun, get to know each other and perhaps find out if there’s potential for a second date!

10 Romantic Movies that will make your Valentine’s Day special

One of my favorite valentine ideas! So you’d rather stay in with some popcorn, chocolate and cuddle on the couch with your partner? Fortunately for you, there are hundreds of romantic movies for you to choose from, almost every kind to suit a variety of tastes. Old, new, tragic, happy, irreverent and ironic, these ten movies are guaranteed to have you laughing, crying and feeling warm and fuzzy inside by the time you’re finished with them.
  • Roman Holiday: A classic, starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck, this is a delightful story about taking chances, letting love in, and finally, knowing how to let go when you have no other choice. Guaranteed smiles and tears.
  • Love Actually: Though this could be classified a Christmas movie, Love Actually is one of those movies that makes you feel wonderfully happy no matter what time of year you watch it at. Following the lives and loves of various characters, this British romantic comedy explores the varied forms in which love comes to us and the unexpected ways in which it enters and exits our lives.
  • She’s Just Not That Into You: Modern, up-to-date and self-consciously aware of our modern approaches to dating, love and sex, this newer romantic comedy follows the multiple character format and is a more realistic, more jaded and yet, curiously hopeful take on love in our disillusioned century.
  • The Notebook: A definite tear-jerker, this is the classic story of two lovers separated by time and circumstance and is all about how two people who are meant to be together will always find a way to come back to each other, in the end, no matter how many obstacles come between them.
  • Titanic: Finally, a movie that appeals to both men and women! The enormous ship and the mechanics of the movie might interest your significant other, but its the love story that captures your attention in the end.
  • When Harry Met Sally: A romantic comedy that asks and answers the question of whether men and women can ever be just friends. Funny, light-hearted and yet emotionally appealing.
  • Four Weddings and a Funeral: Missed opportunities, bad timing and terrible choices dog the two main characters in this wonderful British romantic comedy, supported by an unforgettably eccentric cast of characters who are a testament to the fact that everybody finds love!
  • Notting Hill: Yet another British romantic comedy starring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts, this is one movie that will make you believe that dreams can come true.
  • P.S I Love You: A beautiful, moving story about how you can love somebody enough to help them let you go starring Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler.
  • Chocolat: Chocolate and romance, what could be a more perfect Valentine’s Day movie? Starring Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp.
Just have some fun on your Valentine's day!Share This Post

    Cupid’s Arrows

One of the most universally recognized symbols of Valentine’s Day is Cupid. Legend has it that Cupid (that winged creature that makes us fall in love) is actually equipped with two kinds of arrows. He has golden arrows which cause true love when they penetrate the heart but he also has arrows made of lead which cause wanton sensual passion.

Cupid is the Roman god of love. He is said to be the son of Venus (the goddess of love) and is usually depicted as a chubby, mischievous child with wings who is armed with a bow and a quiver containing a never-ending supply of golden arrows. He uses the bow to shoot a golden arrow into the heart of the unsuspecting victim causing them to fall in love with the next person they meet.

There is a mythological story that describes how Venus, while playing with her son, is scratched by one of his arrows and then falls instantly and helplessly in love with Adonis…the first man she saw after receiving the wound.

In Greek mythology Cupid is known as Eros and is the winged son of Aphrodite. Cherubs are believed to be the descendants of Eros and they are usually depicted as lovable little winged angles that are not armed with bows and arrows.

If Cupid aims an arrow in your direction this Valentine’s Day, just hope that he uses a golden arrow and not one that was made of lead. Wanton desire ends but true love lasts forever.

Hearts and Flowers Valentine’s Day Jewelry

Valentine’s Day is the one day each year that is designated as the day to say, “I love you” with both words and gifts. There are many who think of Valentine’s Day as just another commercial opportunity…..a day for which florists, candy makers and jewelry stores are most grateful….but  I prefer to think of Valentine’s Day as an opportunity….an opportunity to tell the love of my life that she is and will be loved for all of my life.

Traditionally Valentine’s Day jewelry is heart shaped. (A heart is the universal symbol of love.) The jewelry might be a heart shaped pendant, heart shaped earrings, a bracelet featuring hearts of a ring featuring hearts. There might or might not be precious of semi-precious stones included in the jewelry. The value of Valentine’s Day jewelry isn’t so much monetary as sentimental. (Buy the best that you can afford for your love without breaking the bank or sending yourself deeply into debt….it really IS the thought that counts here!)

Rubies are the traditional stone for Valentine’s Day if there is one simply because they are red in color. Diamonds are always a wonderful choice of a precious stone for the one you love. “They” say that diamonds are forever.

The most important thing that you need to know (next to how much you can afford to spend) is your love’s taste in jewelry. The best way to know what she likes is to take notice of what she buys for herself and what she wears. If you are thinking about buying her a bracelet for Valentine’s Day, you need to notice whether she wears bracelets or not and if she does how large the bracelets are. The same is true of pendants, earrings and rings. Knowing what she likes is part of telling her that you love her. Being able to choose a piece of jewelry that will please her tells her that you care enough to have noticed.

Take the opportunity offered on Valentine’s Day to tell the one that you love how much you care.

I wish you a lovely Day Roland Varduhn
