Yesterday post was all about Soul-Food. Todays Valentine Idea is about food for the soul: Poetry!
Poetry, the food for the soul, has always been a medium for the expression of love. It is a lovely, old-fashioned gesture that is both sweet and sentimental, and will definitely delight your Valentine. But of course, not everybody is a poet and if you’re not feeling confident enough about your poetic abilities to write one yourself, this article will help. Here are some classic love poems written by renowned poets, both old and new. Take your pick!

Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s poetry and letters to her husband, Robert Browning, have always expressed pretty sentiments and remain timeless.
2. Love’s Philosophy – Percy Bysshe Shelley
Shelley, as one of the Romantics, nevertheless often took other issues for his subject than love. One of his few light hearted lyrics, this poem is Romantic in the way it mingles nature and love.

A poem about true, unchangeable love that rests on a marriage of true minds and complete and total understanding and acceptance of someone you love.

A poem that evokes every sentiment of love imaginable. Sincere, heart-stoppingly tender , nobody could read this poem and not feel the power of love to change lives and people forever.
8. We are made one with what we touch and see – Oscar Wilde
Though most often celebrated for his dramatic comedies, this is a surprisingly tender poem describing love, and the oneness of lovers with the whole universe. The last line is particularly powerful!
9. I am not Yours – Sara Teasdale
Expressing longing this poem is about wanting to give it all, to drown in the emotion of love beyond every possibility of return.
10. Valentine – Carol Ann Duffy
If you’re sick of the fluff of Valentine’s Day, this one is for you. It gets straight to the point, cutting to the heart of what love, and this day, is all about.
There are lots of love poems out there and with the internet, it’s easier and easier to find them. You need to find one that particularly suits your purposes, and your special relationship. If any of these poems have been sufficient inspiration for you to write your own love poem, that would be an even better way to tell someone you love them, enough to even risk giving them your own poetic attempts!
Good luck, and have a happy Valentine’s Day.
